After finishing runner-up in the 2024 Championship Off-Road Pro Buggy standings, Lorenzo Bonacci will remain in the class for 2025, albeit doing a part-time schedule instead.
He will run three COR races: both rounds at Crandon—including the Polaris World Championship Races and Red Bull Cup—and the season finale at Glen Helen. Two other races will be part of inaugural short course programs as he enters the Mint 400’s maiden short course card in March and the new Bonfire Racing Short Course Race Series at Glen Helen in May. Glen Helen is also a new addition to the COR calendar.
Bonacci had put his buggy up for sale at the end of the 2024 season with the hope of advancing into a truck-based category, but was unable to sell it.
“It’s not entirely a bad thing as we are going to still advertise it while running a partial season,” he noted on Thursday.
Although not doing the full COR schedule, he is open to running the season opener at Wheatland in May, the Antigo in June so he could “make an attempt to continue my winning streak,” or Dirt City in July “because it’s my favorite Midwest track.”
“Anything in between these races I am not sure on,” Bonacci continued. “I would like to get some desert experience under my belt too so I will continue to find a team that is willing to take me on and share driving/navigating duties for some regional short or long desert races.”
A California native who previously raced in the region’s now-defunct Great American Shortcourse, Bonacci headed for the Midwest in 2024. He quickly impressed by winning Race #2 at Dirt City and swept the Antigo weekend. Despite coming up short in the points battle, settling for second to Jordan Bernloehr, Bonacci closed out the year by winning the Red Bull World Cup for Pro Buggy.
