The Southern Nevada Off Road Enthusiasts (SNORE) have tweaked the rules concerning vehicle width for the SXS Pro Turbo and SXS Unlimited classes after a rash of disqualifications for Can-Am Maverick R drivers at the Mint 400.
Both classes now mandate the UTV’s maximum width must be 83 inches wide from the outside of one tire to the outside of the other. Previously, the limit was 80″.
The rule change comes after five cars were disqualified from the Mint’s Limited Race, including the UTV Pro winner Joe Terrana. Each of them raced a Can-Am Maverick R, which is wider than its predecessor X3. UNLTD also measures from the outside tire to the opposite side with a max of 80″, though the Maverick R’s stock suspension means certain tire models push it beyond that.
Off-road veteran and Can-Am factory driver Chris Blais noted only certain companies like Raceline, Vision, and Zollinger currently have the proper offset wheel for the Maverick R.
SNORE, alluding to a post made shortly before the rule change about the race, described its own policy as “a rule that was in place but not challenged. The recent M-400 race and post brought that error to light. The updated rule will be official starting immediately.”
For comparison, the SXS Limited class requires cars to be 78 inches wide.
The 2025 SNORE season began in February with the SNORE 250 Butch Dean Memorial. The second round of the five-race season is the Battle at Primm in April.
