NORRA has created the MOTO Uno category, which will make its debut at the upcoming Mexican 1000 in late April, for those new to motorcycle rally racing.
It is described by NORRA as “the best way to familiarize your team to racing the rally format, using road book navigation and racing in Baja in general.”
Riders in the class will be timed, though they are not included in the overall rankings with everyone else. One can also withdraw at any time or continue with the main race to the finish in Del Cabo.
An entry in MOTO Uno costs $985 per rider, with $180 for each additional rider if signing up as a team.
“This is the perfect trial run/learning experience for riders who always wanted to join in on the fun, but might not have experience in rally type competitions,” reads a statement from NORRA. “You will get a real taste of the greatest Baja racing experience.”
Although MOTO Uno will technically be a timed class, it is not uncommon for NORRA to offer non-competition divisions for those who want to experience Baja California or be exposed to rally-style racing without taking part. Safari classes exist on the four-wheel side with a similar purpose, albeit they are not timed whatsoever.
The Mexican 1000’s racing runs from April 26 to May 1.
