The 2025 Stadium Super Trucks’ season opener at Long Beach concluded with eerily similar results to 2024’s. Just as they did last year, Max Gordon won Race 1 on Saturday before Myles Cheek closed out the weekend by claiming Race 2 on Sunday.

Despite starting second to last after finishing runner-up on Saturday, Cheek gained multiple spots on Lap 1 after Cole Potts and Bill Hynes collided in Turn 9 in front of the pack. Cheek slipped past and found himself in second by the end of the lap.

He took the lead from Arie Luyendyk Jr. shortly after the first competition caution and never let go.

Meanwhile, Gordon had his work cut out for him from the start. Besides starting last as the Race 1 winner, he had to deal with a broken rear sway bar from the start. In spite of this, Gordon muscled his way through the order and past Luyendyk for second before the second competition yellow on Lap 7.

Gordon was unable to catch Cheek during the final three laps, and Matt Brabham passed him for second in Turn 8 on the final circuit.

“Not having a rear sway bar did not help me coming down on Shoreline Drive,” Gordon explained. “There’s that slight right-hand turn, you’re doing above 50, above 60, the front right tire just wants to pick up and push you into the wall so you got to check up a little bit.

“Coming down Pine (Avenue), me and Brabham the ramp side by side, I had had them, we had a good run, I hit the wall and my foot slid off the throttle pedal and he made enough gap to get by me. Tucked in underneath him and I tried to dive bomb him in the last turn. I wasn’t able to get underneath him so I said, ‘You know what? Let’s try and make a run for it down the straightaway, get everything wide open.’ Was right there, right at his front tire, just wasn’t enough.”

Cheek notched his second career SST win and his fifth podium. Brabham, the fastest qualifier, enjoyed his 84th podium while Gordon hit double-digit podiums.

“I’d like to win but Myles and Max were just too fast this weekend,” remarked Brabham. “I was really struggling with the braking a little bit there. I always kept losing the rear.”
