Tobias Ebster is headed for bigger things. As one of rally raid’s rising stars, it’s inevitable that his successes would lead him to a factory program, and his current employer BAS World KTM Racing Team knew that.

On Friday, the team posted on social media:

While it is always bittersweet to see our riders move on, we are incredibly proud to see many of them step up to Factory Teams. As a team, we value our role as a stepping stone, helping to bridge the gap between up-and-coming talent and the factory level.

Tobias Ebster’s journey with the BAS World KTM Racing Team has been one of dedication, growth, and impressive performances. We are honoured to have played a role in his success at the 2025 Dakar Rally, where he delivered a standout ride, finishing 9th overall and 2nd in Rally 2.

It has been a pleasure working with you, Tobias. We wish you all the best for what lies ahead!

Ebster currently leads the World Rally-Raid Championship in Rally2 after two rounds, having placed second in class at the Dakar Rally followed by third at the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge. The latter came with SRG Motorsports, a Dubai-based team since BAS World doesn’t operate in the Emirates.

The Austrian has been impressive since entering rally raid, winning the 2022 Dubai International Baja followed by his class in his W2RC debut at the 2023 Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge. At his maiden Dakar Rally in 2024, he won the Original by Motul subclass.

Ebster wrote the following soon after BAS World’s post:

A special chapter comes to a close. After many unforgettable years, it’s time to say thank you.

Thank you everybody – for the support, trust, and everything we’ve shared on and off the bike. Only some people know my Story and all i can say its a handful of people that believed in me when others did not.

Thank you @kini_redbull (KINI Red Bull) – for standing behind me for over 23 years. From my very first ride to the biggest races in the world, your belief in me has shaped my journey more than words can say.

@basworldktmracingteam we had a great Dakar together and i will never forget those moments after achiving a great 9th place together.

I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together – and truly grateful for the people behind the logos.

Now, it’s time for a new direction. What’s next? You’ll see soon.

Can’t wait to take you all along for the ride.

Ebster is the second rider to leave BAS World ahead of the third round in South Africa. Bradley Cox, who represented the team in RallyGP for the first time at Dakar, also departed the team in April.
