Patrick Gruszka usually drives a Hyundai i20 R5 in the American Rally Association. Since Alastair Scully already drove one in Episode 3 of the Hoonigan Speedrun Rally Championship in that, Gruszka decided to pull his Mitsubishi Mirage from retirement for Episode 5.

Gruszka is the 2023 ARA champion in the RC2 class. He’s been competing in rally since 2021.

The Mirage was built from scratch by Green APU, which produces auxiliary power units for semi-trucks. It can produce up to 380 horsepower with a 33-millimeter restrictor, with a six-speed gearbox and an Evo X drivetrain.

“The same engineers that created this product that has to withstand such tough and rigorous conditions out on the road every single day on semi-trucks was put into this car,” explained Gruszka. “Everything that came from this car was utilized in that product application as well. It’s one tough little machine. You can put it through practically anything and it’ll survive.”

With the Mirage, Gruszka hopes to usurp Scully’s seat on the throne. Scully set a 1:45.83 in his Hyundai i20 ahead of Jeff Zwart’s Porsche GT3 (1:54.12), Trent Koury’s Subaru Impreza 2.5RS (1:54.87), and Faruk Kugay’s Toyota Corolla (2:11.23).
