Blake Wilkey is the sixth and final driver to take on the Hoonigan Rally Speedrun Championship, doing so with his iconic “Jaws” Trophy Bug.
Wilkey has been doing off-road races left and right, ranging from the desert like SCORE and the Mint 400 to short course such as the Crandon World Cup and Nitrocross. Much of his action has come in either a Polaris RZR or Jaws, a Trophy Truck build with a Class 11 Beetle body.
It took Wilkey’s team roughly five years and three Beetle bodies to build. Jaws operates on a resleeve Texas Speed 427 LS engine, a three-speed TH400 transmission, superchargers from Magnuson, and VP100 fuel.
In the five prior episodes, Patrick Gruszka set the fastest time of 1:37.13 in his Mitsubishi Mirage. Alastair Scully’s Hyundai i20 R5 is second with a time of 1:45.83 ahead of Jeff Zwart’s Porsche GT3 (1:54.12), Trent Koury’s Subaru Impreza 2.5RS (1:54.87), and Faruk Kugay’s Toyota Corolla (2:11.23).
