After adding a third straight Morocco Desert Challenge to his trophy case, Mitchel van den Brink will be bringing his Can-Am Maverick to FIA competition. On Wednesday, he announced he will run the rest of the 2025 FIA World Baja Cup for Eurol Rally Sport in collaboration with South Racing.

Despite missing the first two rounds of the season in Saudi Arabia and Jordan, series rules stipulate drivers can only designate six of the eight races to earn points in. Of course, with six events remaining in the season, it lines up perfectly for van den Brink.

Van den Brink races the Dakar Rally in a truck but otherwise enters cross-country rallies in the SSV class. He has won the last three Morocco Desert Challenges in SSV, clearing his opposition by over two hours at the latest edition in April with a Maverick R. Last November, he entered the World Baja Cup’s Dubai International Baja in a Maverick X3 and finished third in Challenger.

Dubai is the 2025 WBC’s season finale, scheduled for late November. Van den Brink’s first race will be this weekend’s Baja Greece, which is followed by rounds in Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Qatar. Paul Severn currently leads the series’ SSV standings with 92 points after finishing third among points-earning drivers at the Saudi Baja and topping the Jordan Baja.

“We’re going for the title in the SSV category,” van den Brink proclaimed. “It’s important that we showcase ourselves at a higher level besides the Dakar Rally. Last year, we raced a baja for the first time and finished third in Dubai. That taste made us want more, and now we can show ourselves in serious competition.”

In January, he finished runner-up in Truck at the Dakar Rally. It was his fifth time racing Dakar as a driver, debuting in 2021. His father Martin still primarily races trucks, placing second at the Morocco Desert Challenge in T5.
