After 22 years, José Boisjoli has announced his intention to retire from his position as BRP Inc.’s president and CEO at the end of this fiscal year. He will also resign as board chairman.

Boisjoli has led Bombardier Recreational Products since its founding in 2003, created as a powersports offshoot of Bombardier Inc. Despite retaining the Bombardier name, BRP is a separate entity from the aircraft manufacturer.

BRP is behind the Can-Am line of UTVs, the Sea-Doo watercraft, and snowmobiles such as Ski-Doo and Lynx; the company also develops Rotax engines used in such vehicles. Under Boisjoli’s watch, BRP moved its headquarters to Valcourt in 2003 and oversaw the launch of the Can-Am Spyder and Maverick.

A former employee in pharmaceuticals and road safety, Boisjoli began working for Bombardier in 1989 as director of procurement for its marine products division. He was promoted to division vice president in 1992, then became executive VP of manufacturing operations three years later. By 1998, Boisjoli was the president for Ski-Doo and Sea-Doo.

“Leading BRP has never been a job: it’s been a work of passion and a true honor,” Boisjoli stated. “During my 36-year career at BRP, I have had the privilege to shape its DNA alongside brilliant minds and talented people who have relentlessly pushed the limits of innovation to offer the best experiences to our riding communities. Reflecting on my journey, I am proud that we have proven ourselves capable of changing the name of the game within the Powersports industry and built a strong organization that is well positioned for the long-term. I am grateful for everyone who contributed to BRP’s success.”

Boisjoli’s retirement announcement comes on the same day that BRP reported its first quarter results for the ongoing fiscal year. The company declared a revenue of $1,846.9 million, a decrease of 7.7% from 2024, though the net income rose by 278.8% to $161 million. BRP also recently sold its Alumacraft and Telwater boat lines to Bryton Marine Group and Yamaha Motor Australia, respectively, to focus on UTVs and snowmobiles.

He will remain at his post until a successor is appointed.

“On behalf of the board, I want to thank José for guiding BRP on a tremendous path of growth and diversification over the past 22 years, and for his stewardship of the business,” commented BRP board lead director Barbara Samardzich. “He has led with purpose and vision, implementing impactful strategies that have resulted in strong value creation and significant returns for shareholders. José has surrounded himself with a seasoned executive team and, together, they will continue driving the business plan and facilitate a smooth transition to a new CEO, when the time comes.”
