The Toyota GR DKR Hilux is one of the top rally raid vehicles today, having won three Dakar Rallies and every World Rally-Raid Championship manufacturer’s title since the series’ inception. But how does it shake up compared to a KTM 250 hard enduro bike?
Red Bull was eager to experiment with the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo in town. Seth Quintero and his Hilux went up against rider Carson Brown in a series of tests such as a drag race, stopping distance, and a flying lap around the course. Winner gets bragging rights.
Quintero is currently in his second season with Toyota Gazoo Racing, and sits fourth in points after three rounds. He and his Hilux arrived in Austria just a week after the South African Safari Rally, where he finished seventh overall. His 2025 W2RC began with a ninth at the Dakar Rally followed by a third at the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge.
A fellow American, Brown has competed in a variety of bike series like AMA’s Supercross and Pro Motocross Championship as well as the FIM World Supercross Championship. He finished sixth in the latter’s 2022 SX2 standings. Brown also won the Red Bull Straight Rhythm 125cc title in 2020 and 2022. Fairly new to hard enduro, he made his Erzbergrodeo debut in 2024 and finished 158th overall.
Brown finished 14th and fourth overall in the Erzbergrodeo’s two Prologue runs for a combined ranking of fifth.
The Erzbergrodeo is one of, if not the biggest hard enduro race in the world. Given he’s already there, Quintero got to spend some time on a bike and try out the course as well. Quintero wasn’t the only W2RC competitor in Austria as current RallyGP points leader Daniel Sanders is there to open Sunday’s main event.
