The Hungarian Cross-Country Rally Championship has launched the PowerRace Cup, a challenge stretching the final three races of the season for SSV drivers competing in the national UP class.
PowerQuad, an off-road dealer in Debrecen, is sponsoring the Cup and how it got its name. The winner will receive a gift package of DeWalt power tools worth 500,000 Hungarian forint (about USD$1,447.66) from PowerQuad, while second gets a set worth 200,000 Ft ($578.97) and third’s is 100,000 Ft ($289.49). The UP champion for the season wins a 100,000 Ft shopping voucher from PowerQuad, which could be used for any of the store’s products.
Signing up costs 200,000 Ft per race. Drivers must also have a Type B license from MNASZ to sign up.
SSV team Garilla Racing will host a workshop in mid-July to teach everyone the rules and regulations if necessary.
“Within the framework of the Terep-Rallye UP group, PowerRace is a unique opportunity for those who’ve long considered entering the world of cross-country rally but haven’t yet found the right moment,” reads a statement from the series. “This category is specifically designed for beginner drivers, with favorable conditions and an easy entry point.”
The Hungarian Baja on August 14–17, which is also the sixth round of the FIA European Baja Cup, will be the first event of the PowerRace Cup. After that will be the Median Rally on September 26–28 followed by the season-ending Raid of the Champions on November 14–16.
