The 31st Rallye Breslau came to an end on Friday. The fifth and final stage, a 119-kilometer run through Drawsko, offered little room for error for those atop the leaderboards.

Unfortunately for some, they learned the hard way.

Edvard Sokolovskij went into Friday clinging to a 2:55 lead over Dovydas Karka in Enduro, while two minutes and 40 seconds of penalties further sliced the gap down. Thus, while he didn’t have to beat Karka, Sokolovskij needed to keep the margin close if Karka finished ahead.

Karka would finish Stage 5 second and Sokolovskij in third, separated by 1:21. With penalties accounted for, Karka leapfrogged Sokolovskij for the overall win by just 46 seconds. Berend de Ruiter, who won the stage for Enduro, would place right behind the Lithuanians and half an hour back.

All the other classes save for SSV saw their overall leaders far enough that a Stage 5 misstep would not impact them. In SSV, Arūnas Simanavičius entered the last stage with a 4:30 advantage over Paul Spierings.

Simanavičius was ultimately knocked out by a mechanical failure, ending his race. Spierings held off Dalius Olechnavičius to win by three minutes and secure the overall.

Jim Marsden capped off what was otherwise a difficult rally by winning the leg in Extreme Car Open, beating Hardo Mere by just 52 seconds. He attributed the stage victory to his co-driver and 2018 winner Helder da Rocha.

“Things have changed. Navigation has changed,” Marsden explained. “We’re now not using paper, we’re not using digital roadbooks and we struggle with that,” Marsden explained. “But today, [Helder] won us this stage.”
