Triumph Motorcycles will take part in the Red Bull Romaniacs later in July, fielding the Tiger 900 in the new Adventure Rallye class for Sam Sunderland and Jonny Walker.
The Tiger 900 is Triumph’s adventure motorcycle, with the Rally Pro being its off-road model as opposed to the pavement-based Tiger 900 GT and GT Pro. It features a liquid-cooled, 12-valve dual overhead camshaft engine with three inline cylinders and a displacement of 888cc; the motor is capable of 106.5 brake horsepower with 66.4 ft-lb of torque.
The bike measures out at 57.16 inches tall without the mirror and weighs 503 pounds when wet. It uses a tubular steel trellis frame along with Showa forks on the front and rear suspension, along with a 20-liter gas tank.
Walker, the inaugural rider for Triumph’s enduro program, switches to the Tiger after usually competing on a TF 250 and TF 250-E. While he is no stranger to Romaniacs, having won the 2014 and 2015 editions, doing it on an adventure bike is a much different experience from a 250cc four-stroke.
The Briton is coming off a sixth-place run at the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo in May.
“I’ve raced Romaniacs plenty of times, so it’s cool to be going back in a completely different way racing the Tiger 900 which I’m really excited about,” said Walker. “I’m pretty confident, I think it will be fun and of course the main goal is to win the Adventure Ultimate class. It’s going to be totally different to anything I’ve done before, and probably a bit more enjoyable on the big bike.”
A two-time Dakar Rally winner and current off-road brand ambassador for Triumph, Sunderland is new to Romaniacs but he seems to find parallels between it and his old discipline.
“It’s super exciting to be taking on such an iconic hard enduro race,” he added. “The adventure classes are a great way to get involved and I can’t wait to get out to Romania to get stuck in.
“It’s more similar to what I have done in rally raid in the past, especially with the five-day format, and I’m looking forward to getting into race mode again. My Triumph Tiger 900 will be pretty much standard, so it’s going to be cool to put it to the test.”
Aventure Rallye is a new addition for 2025, intended for multi-cylinder motorcycles. It is split into Adventure Lite for newcomers to hard enduro and Adventure Ultimate for those with experience either in the discipline or on adventure bikes.
Red Bull Romaniacs will begin with a Prologue on July 22, followed by racing on July 23–26.
