Kyle Greaves will take over the #22 Pro 4 of his uncle Johnny Greaves for the next two Championship Off-Road race weekends at Dirt City and Bark River. The elder Greaves, who broke his sternum on a hard landing during this past weekend’s ERX Off-Road National, hopes to be back in time for Crandon in late August.

During Saturday’s Pro 4 action at ERX, Johnny was battling Cole Mamer for fourth when he overcooked the jump at the start/finish line. His #22 angled to the right while mid-air before landing awkwardly on its nose. Mamer took some damage himself as he tried to avoid the sideways Greaves.

“Totally my fault,” Johnny said on Monday. “Charged up to the jump really hard, foot slipped off the brake, so I got off the throttle which put it in a nosedive.”

For Race 2 on Sunday, nephew Kyle was asked to fill in. He had finished third in the Saturday Pro 2 race for his first podium of the season, and added another third-place run in the Sunday event prior to Pro 4. In relief duty, Kyle finished fifth.

Kyle, a two-time Pro Lite champion, was previously called upon to replace Johnny at the 2023 season opener in Antigo after the latter broke six of his ribs and his shoulder in a practice crash. He finished third in both Pro 4 races.

Johnny’s son CJ won Race 1 and is the current Pro 4 points leader. Johnny was third in the standings behind CJ and Jimmy Henderson, though his absence for the next two rounds will obviously knock him out of contention.

If his recovery goes to plan, Johnny should be back for Crandon on August 28–30. In the meantime, Kyle will pilot the #22 at the Dirt City Off-Road National on July 25–27 and the Off-Road Rumble in the UP on August 8–10. Kyle sits fifth in Pro 2 points.
