EBRO announced Tuesday that it will enter the 2026 Dakar Rally at the highest level, fielding a car in the T1+ subcategory.
The marque is a revival of the Spanish truck brand by Motor Ibérica. Based on Ford trucks, the predecessor existed from 1954 to 1987 before being absorbed by Nissan.
EcoPower Automotive subsequently got the rights to the name, which they used on an electric race truck that appeared at the 2022 Dakar Rally as part of Dakar Future, the precursor to Mission 1000. The car had a fully electric 150 kW (201 horsepower) engine and was driven by Ariel Jatón.
Chinese manufacturer Chery Automotive formally brought back the EBRO name in 2024 in a partnership with Nissan; EcoPower, now known as EV Motors, also has a stake in the alliance to sell EBRO cars in Europe. Chery is no stranger to rally raids as they operate a factory team that competes in the Taklimakan Rally; the latest edition in June had three Chery Tiggo 8 cars racing in T1.1.
Incidentally, fellow 2026 Dakar debutant Land Rover’s vehicles are produced in China by Chery via joint venture with Jaguar Land Rover.
The company released the following statement on Tuesday:
EBRO returns to the most extreme motorsports competition in the world: the 2026 Dakar Rally. It will do so with its own team and a 4×4 vehicle under T1+ regulations, in the top category of the FIA World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC), ready to showcase its reliability, toughness, and competitive spirit.
This participation marks a new chapter in the brand’s history, which already surprised in 2022 with a 100% electric SSV as the Zero car in Dakar Future. Now, EBRO is going a step further with an ambitious, athletic, and long-term commitment. This return to the Dakar symbolizes more than just racing. It represents a commitment to innovation, teamwork, and determination. In the demanding environment of the Saudi desert, EBRO will push both its technical and human capabilities to the limit. The race offers the perfect stage to express the values of a relaunched, youthful brand that carries a historic legacy.
For EBRO, returning to the Dakar is more than just competing. It’s a statement of intent: a brand with over 70 years of history rewriting its present from the highest level of motorsport, ready to start a new chapter.
An ambitious project to prove our DNA in the top category of the Dakar.
The 2026 Dakar Rally is scheduled for January 3–17.
