The venerable Curt LeDuc will serve as the grand marshal for the NORRA 500 in October, the sanctioning body announced on Wednesday.
LeDuc is one of the greatest off-road racers in history, achieving success in a multitude of disciplines from short course and rock crawling to hillclimb and desert racing. His experience also includes the Paris–Dakar Rally for Kia at he turn of the millennium. He was inducted into the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2015.
He has remained deeply involved with the off-road world even after his driving days. He runs the Curt LeDuc Swap Meet, one of the largest off-road swap meets in the country with dates in the spring and fall.
While he never competed in the NORRA 500 or current Mexican 1000 (he’s won the original Mexican 1000, which became the Baja 1000), LeDuc has participated in the non-competition Safari class as a driver and guide.
In the days leading up to the race, he will attend Mac Johnson’s Vintage Classic Car Round-Up followed by the meet and greet.
The NORRA 500 is scheduled for October 9–12. NORRA’s other event, the Mexican 1000, took place in May where Mike Pearlman was grand marshal and competed.
