Not many people picture Vespa when they think of a rally raid vehicle, but the famed scooter brand has a surprisingly deep history in the discipline. One of the more recent examples is now up for sale.

On Wednesday, Andrea Revel Nutini announced he is selling the Vespa VX that he and his friend Marcello Dibrogni built for the 2013 Transanatolia Rally. He set an asking price of €20,000 that comes with gear and accessories.

Revel and Dibrogni heavily modified two Vespa VX 150 scooters to make them rally spec. A 220cc Pinasco engine was installed along with a reworked chassis and other specialized parts that Revel noted were “designed and manufactured directly by us.”

Both ran the Rallye des Pharaons in 2011, where the #18 Vespa reached the finish and received a special award for winning its “class”. It was the first time a Vespa raced an international rally raid since Bernard Neimer, Marc Simonot, and Bernard and Yvan Tcherniavsky entered the 1980 Paris–Dakar Rally on Vespa P200Es; Bernard Tcherniavsky and Simonot were able to finish.

#19, the other Vespa and the one Revel is selling, went to Turkey two years later for the aforementioned Transanatolia Rally and also completed the event with the same honor.

Both scooters were eventually put on display at the Museo Piaggio in Italy, where they spent five years in the Adventure section. In 2022, #18 was put on the action block and currently resides in a private collection.

Now, Revel plans to sell #19 so he can afford to start “new Vespa project I have in mind.”

“It’s a truly unique piece, as the other has long been in the private museum of a well-known collector, and this is the only one left, and it’s the one displayed at the museum,” wrote Revel in his ad. “The Vespa is in exactly the same condition it was in at the end of the race.”

While scooters are obviously not the vehicle of choice for the average rally raider today, that hasn’t stopped a few from experimenting. In 2023, Wang Shanshan wanted to do the Taklimakan Rally on a Royal Alloy 300 but it failed pre-race inspection, so she switched to a Honda bike.
