Lucas Oil Speedway is best known for its dirt oval, but also boasts an off-road track nearby that was revived in 2023. In their August 2025 development update, iRacing‘s team revealed the latter will be completed and added to the sim racer. Its release will come in tandem with the FIA Cross Car as part of the December Season 1 build.
Located in Wheatland, Lucas Oil Speedway hosted short course for the first time in 2007 and 2008 for the World Series of Off Road Racing. The track went dormant following that series’ demise before being brought back in 2016 with the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. It was an annual stop for the West Coast-based championship until LOORRS shut down as well in 2020. MidAmerica Outdoors’ truck and SxS series raced there in 2023.
Championship Off-Road added the track to its 2025 calendar as the season opener. The Show-Me Off-Road Shootout took place in early May.
The track consists of nine turns and features a massive tabletop jump leading into whoops. The iRacing team visited Wheatland to scan it for the game.
While Cross Cars have not competed at Wheatland, iRacing is dropping both in tandem since they cover the game’s fairly small dirt road racing discipline. Cross Cars are buggies developed by the FIA as affordable vehicles for autocross and rallycross, and are most prominent at the FIA Motorsport Games. The federation also sanctions the FIA European Cross Car Championship and Cross Car Academy Trophy.
“We are happy to announce the addition of the FIA Cross Car to iRacing,” reads the developer update. “The FIA first revealed this relationship in June, and the Cross Car will debut in iRacing with the December Season 1 build. The Cross Car provides an approachable and fun entry point to our dirt road racing series. The release will be further supported by the completion of the Off-Road track at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland).”
