In less than ten days, Hansen Motorsport went from expecting to miss a race for the first time since the FIA World Rallycross Championship’s inception to enjoying their first podium of the year. Well, sort of.
Kevin and Timmy Hansen were fully prepared to sit out this weekend’s World RX of Finland because their family-run team couldn’t secure the sponsorship for the race. Had they missed it, the Hansen outfit would’ve been absent from a World Rallycross round for the first time ever in its 11-year history.
CE Dealer Team decided to lend a helping hand on Thursday, just two days before the action, by providing two spare Volvo PWRs. While it certainly was a change of pace for the brothers as they traded in their blue-and-red firesuits for construction vehicle yellow, they got to work.
Kevin and Timmy respectively ranked fourth and fifth in qualifying, the former scoring two heat wins in the process in Q2 and Q3. Timmy struggled in his heats by comparison.
The Final was mainly a battle between points leader Johan Kristoffersson and Ole Christian Veiby, one that the latter won. Behind them, Kevin chased down Juha Rytkönen.
Although Rytkönen beat the younger Hansen for third, he received a two-second penalty for contact with temporary Hansen teammate Niclas Grönholm in the first corners of the race. This dropped Rytkönen down to fifth while respectively promoting Kevin and Timmy up to third and fourth.
The podium is Kevin’s maiden of the season.
“A shame that it came about from a penalty for Juha,” Kevin started, “but after what we’ve been through, we can’t help but feel great about a podium. The team really deserve it after such a roller coaster of a week.”
Conversely, Timmy failed to podium for the first time in 2025 and fell from third to fourth in the standings. Still, the elder Hansen wasn’t going to complain after everything that happened.
“My podium run comes to an end, but all that mattered to the team this week was that we were here and we were competing,” Timmy commented.
Officially, both were still written down in series documents as competing for Hansen World RX Team with their usual Peugeots since that was how they were registered in the teams’ championship.
Grönholm retired from the Final while Klara Andersson, the other CE Dealer Team driver, missed it after contact at the start of Q4 forced her off the track.
“We would have been happy whatever the result,” said team principal and the brothers’ dad Kenneth. “It was a last-minute call up so it was an achievement just to make it to the Final let alone show some pace with so little preparation.
“A big thank you to CE Dealer Team and Volvo Construction Equipment for making our attendance possible, and to the FIA and our fellow World RX teams for allowing us back on to the entry list. We are here and that is a victory to us. To have enough speed to challenge for the podium is also a great result.
“Hopefully, we will be back in Türkiye to fight for some more silverware.”
