Ken Roczen is one of the best motocross riders in the business, but can his skills translate to four wheels? He’ll find out this weekend when he makes his short course debut in the Championship Off-Road season finale at Glen Helen, driving a Pro 2 truck from Ryan Beat Motorsports.
Roczen’s 2025 AMA Supercross Championship was overshadowed by a right ankle injury that forced him to miss the final two rounds, relegating him to fifth in the 450cc standings. Following surgery and recovery, he was deemed good to go for the SuperMotocross World Championship where he finished fourth in points.
The German won the AMA Motocross 450cc title twice in 2014 and 2016, and has competed in SMX since its inception in 2023. He has also claimed the FIM Supercross World Championship in 2022 and 2023, and represented his native country in the Motocross of Nations with victory in 2012.
In AMA Pro Motocross, Roczen’s best finish at Glen Helen is second in 2014 and 2016. Of course, driving a truck at Glen Helen will offer a slightly different experience from his usual Suzuki RM-Z450. To prepare, he spent Monday morning testing on the Glen Helen track with coaching from Beat.
His debut adds him to a list of AMA stars who’ve tried their hand at short course, company that includes fellow Pro Motocross champs Ryan Villopoto and Ricky Johnson. Incidentally, Beat raced SX Lites in the 2000s before switching to driving.
Beat is currently second in Pro 2 points entering Glen Helen. Besides full-time programs in Pro 2 and Pro SPEC, his team occasionally prepares trucks for guest drivers. R/BM fielded a Pro 2 for Brian Deegan, himself a motocross legend, at Crandon earlier this month.
