With the book closed on World Rallycross sooner than they’d like, Hansen Motorsport will now start a new chapter in Extreme H. On Tuesday, the team announced they will compete in both the Extreme E Final Lap and the inaugural Extreme H season in October.
They will field an Odyssey 21 in the former and a Pioneer 25 in the latter for Andreas Bakkerud and Catie Munnings, both under the Team Hansen banner.
Timmy Hansen will serve as team principal. While he’s raced in Extreme E since the inaugural season in 2021, scheduling obligations with the E1 Series mean he won’t be able to drive in XH. His younger brother Kevin is with Veloce Racing.
The elder Hansen and Munnings were XE teammates at Andretti, winning the 2021 Arctic X Prix together en route to a third-place points finish. Munnings also currently races in E1, albeit for Team Al-Ula while Hansen races for Team Brazil.
Bakkerud is a longtime rallycross rival of the Hansens, squaring off against them in World RX and Nitrocross. In 2023, he was named a reserve and test driver for Extreme E; that role lasted just one race before he was pressed into service for JBXE in replacement for Heikki Kovalainen. The Norwegian duo of Bakkerud and Hedda Hosås finished last in points.
“Catie and I have built a great dynamic as teammates over the years, and with Andreas I have shared so many battles and memories and I know firsthand how hard he is to beat,” said Hansen. “The respect and trust that comes with the history we all have will be a huge strength as we take on this new challenge in Extreme H. I hope we can give them a great car so that they feel confident to drive fast.”
Extreme E’s Final Lap will take place on October 4–5 followed by the inaugural Extreme H event on October 9–11. Both are in Qiddiya.
