Jenson Button’s JBXE will join the transition to Extreme H, rebranding as JBX powered by Team Monaco. The latter, a new program run by Maxime Nocher and Chris Taylor, hopes to use the partnership with Button as a springboard before starting a standalone team in 2026.
They will field a Pioneer 25 for Tommi Hallman and Christine GZ.
“The team has competed in every round of Extreme E since the series began so to continue with this project into its new phase is super exciting and what a fantastic venue to kick things off in Saudi Arabia,” said Button.
The 2009 F1 champion, Button has dabbled in a myriad of series since his retirement including NASCAR, Super GT, Le Mans, and even the Baja 1000. In 2021, he entered Extreme E with JBXE. After driving the inaugural race, he stepped aside to let Kevin Hansen split the car with Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky, and the team finished third in points.
Over the next three seasons, JBXE had a rotation of multple drivers. Molly Taylor (2022), Hedda Hosås (2022–2023), Tamara Molinaro (2023), Dania Akeel and Amanda Sorensen (2024) were the women who drove the #22, while the guys to do so were Fraser McConnell (2022), Heikki Kovalainen (2023), and Andreas Bakkerud (2023–2024). Despite the third in 2021, the team ultimately never won a race.
Hallman and GZ have both served as test and reserve drivers for Extreme E. The latter finished ninth in the 2021 standings for XITE Energy Racing and also did some races for Veloce Racing and Carl Cox Motorsport in 2022 and 2023, with her best finish being a third for the latter at the first Hydro X Prix.
In their usual disciplines, Hallman is a rising star in rallycross who’s won in RallyX and Nitrocross. GZ is a TV personality for F1 who’s also competed in rallying and cross-country rally; she was supposed to race the Dakar Rally in January but called it off due to funding issues.
“Having Jenson Button and JBX on the grid from day one has been a huge part of our story, so it’s fantastic to see the team step into the next chapter with the FIA Extreme H World Cup,” said XH managing director Ali Russell. “JBX powered by Team Monaco combines elite motorsport pedigree with a genuine commitment to our purpose, and with Tommi Hallman and Christine GZ joining the line-up, they bring an exciting mix of experience and emerging talent. Their presence underlines exactly what Extreme H is about, racing at the highest level while pioneering a new, sustainable future for motorsport.”
Team Monaco is run by Nocher and Taylor. The former is an 11-time World Kite Surfing champion, while Taylor was an early investor into Formula E.
