It’s not the same with which he won the 1993 Paris–Dakar Rally with, but Mitsubishi Pajero T3 driven by Bruno Saby to victory during this time is now up for sale.
This Pajero was developed in 1991 by Mitsubishi Motorsports and Sonatuto Mitubishi, making it older than Saby’s Dakar winner. The former in Japan built the chassis and base, while the latter completed the build in France.
Saby won the 1992 Atlas Rally (predecessor to today’s Rallye du Maroc) and 1993 Tunisia Rally with this Pajero, and placed second in the 1992 Paris–Moscow–Beijing Rally. Saeed Al-Hajri was also behind the wheel of the Pajero when he won the 1993 UAE Desert Challenge (now the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge).
Weighing in at 1,410 kilograms, the Pajero features a carbon fiber and Kevlar body, a double wishbone and advanced long-travel suspension, and coil springs on all four wheels. Its engine is a turbocharged, 2.4-liter unit with four cylinders and 16 valves and capped at 300 horsepower.
Many of these elements would also be used in the 1993 Pajero Prototype used by Saby at the 1993 Dakar.
“We are proud to soon welcome an absolute icon of rally history to our collection,” reads a statement from GP Cars 4 Sale. The seller also noted the vehicle should be legal for FIA-sanctioned historic rallies and the Dakar Classic, though the latter is the safer bet since FIA vintage rallies are murky regarding prototype cars.
Inquiries can be made to GP Cars 4 Sale at their page on the Pajero.
