Toby Price will still be in a Toyota Hilux for his second Dakar Rally on four wheels, but it’ll be with the flagship Toyota Gazoo Racing this time. He will have Armand Monleón as his navigator.

After a decade as a bike rider in which he won the 2016 and 2019 Dakars, Price made the switch to driving in 2025. Driving a Hilux from Overdrive Racing, he was knocked out of the race at the halfway mark when his navigator and fellow ex-Dakar bike champ Sam Sunderland suffered a concussion on a hard landing.

Despite his rally successes and proving to be an impressive driver, he spent much of 2025 trying to find a team interested in his services. Price used to be a factory driver for Mitsubishi, with whom he won three straight Finke Desert Races, but left the marque after failing to convince them to expand their operations into Dakar.

In the meantime, the Aussie continued his campaign in SCORE. He and Paul Weel recently retired from the season-ending Baja 1000 after running out of gas in the closing 55 miles while leading.

Of course, he hopes his second Dakar in a car will bring better fortune.

“This is one of those pinch-yourself moments in my motorsport career,” said Price. “Dakar at this level is something only a very small group of people get to experience, and I’m extremely grateful to Toyota, Red Bull, Peter Kittle Motor Company, and all our partners for making it happen. I’m really looking forward to heading back to Dakar for redemption after how our debut ended last year. Letting our partners down and seeing Sam suffer a concussion was tough, but it’s only added to my motivation.

“Teaming up with Armand is incredible. He brings so much experience, and I truly believe we’re in a great position to take it to the Dakar greats.”

While he came up short in the navigators’ championship, Monleón helped Lucas Moraes win the World Rally-Raid Championship for drivers. Moraes has since left for Dacia with Dennis Zenz as his new navigator.
