HT Rally Raid experienced a scare when one of their trucks was involved in a pile-up while on their way to Santa Susanna and Barcelona to ship their Dakar Rally bikes. Nobody was hurt, and their Honda CRF450RXs subsequently made it to Spain on a hauler from Fried van de Laar Racing.
The accident occurred 125 kilometers outside of Nancy in France due to icy toll roads. One of their trucks smashed into another, destroying the front and causing the roof to partially collapse.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the team. The team quickly made contact with the ASO to discuss the matter, after which van de Laar Racing and Van Loon Racing deployed a truck to complete the trip. Help arrived just an hour later.
“It was really overwhelming to receive so much help from the Dakar family, and the organisation during this difficult time,” the team stated. “Finally the Van der Laar family offered to bring their truck to the place of the accident and made it possible for us to continue our trip (the same day!) to Barcelona and to have a fantastic solution for our team. This spirit makes Dakar the unique event it is.”
The van de Laar family has long been associated with the Dakar’s Truck category. After Fried’s passing, his sons Ben and Jan as well as daughter Anja have gone on to race themselves. Anja, now Anja Van Loon, is also racing Dakar in an IVECO for Team de Rooy.
HT Rally Raid is a Honda Rally2 client. For Dakar, they’re fielding bikes for Ruy Barbosa, Markus Hertlein, Dovydas Karkas, Ian Olthof, and Robert Przybyłowski.
