In celebration of being named official timekeeper of the Africa Eco Race, Baltic Watches has created La Cap 180°, a limited edition watch.
The name comes from the 180-degree compass reading (CAP headings are also used in rally raid navigation) to mean straight south, in reference to how the race travels south until it arrives at the finish in Dakar, Senegal. Only 180 pieces will also be produced and sold for €720 apiece.
While the AER is Baltic’s first partnership with a rally, it is also the official timekeeper of the Enduropale du Touquet. The world’s most prestigious sand race was founded by Dakar Rally mastermind Thierry Sabine, and Baltic even produced a commemorative watch for it called the Hermétique Dual Time Enduropale Edition. The AER follows the route of the old Dakar.
The Cap 180° is also a Hermétique Dual Time model. It comes with a Miyota 9039 caliber and automatic movement, a 42-hour pwoer reserve, and 15 atmospheres (150 meters) of water resistance. The 37-millimeter case is made from 316L stanless steel with a thickness of 10.8 mm (8.3 mm without the crystal). On the back is the Africa Eco Race logo and the model number out of 180.
It has dual time function and a bi-directional internal bezel. Measured over 12 hours, it’s supposed to help with keeping time during races.
Two strap types are available, a brown one made of rubber and an optional metal bracelet. Both bump up the price to €798.
They are expected to be delivered before January 20, with the hope of getting them out to buyers before the start of the AER on January 24.
