Juan Cruz Yacopini is in the hospital after suffering serious injuries while vacationing on Friday afternoon.
Yacopini had been spending the afternoon with friends at Camping El Bigua, a campground at the El Carrizal Dam in Mendoza, Argentina. While sailing, he decided to dive for a swim but hit his head on the bottom of the water.
While being brought by his friends to an ambulance on Route 62, Yacopini went into cardiac arrest. Upon arrival, medical personnel was able to stabilize him with CPR. He was taken to Hospital Perrupato, where doctors diagnosed him with polytrauma and spinal shock. The severity of his injuries led to Yacopini’s transfer to Clínica de Cuyo, where he remains for treatment.
The specifics of his polytrauma, or several traumatic injuries, were not disclosed.
The accident occurred just days after Yacopini was in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to be recognized as the 2025 FIA World Baja Cup overall champion. Due to his injuries, he will certainly miss next month’s Dakar Rally.
