14 years after his last Dakar Rally, Hans Bekx is back behind the wheel of a rally truck. At least for a little while.
Bekx got to test drive Rainbow Truck Team’s MAN TGA after Stage 9 on Wednesday. While obviously not at competition pace, he had nice things to say.
“Very much getting used to it. Very much so, because I’m not used to automatic car,” said Bekx.
The Dutchman competed in the Dakar Rally’s Truck class from 1998 to 2012. After racing a GINAF early on, he switched to DAF in 2004. His best class finish was an eighth in 2001 and 2004, while placing 17th in 2012.
He also entered the inaugural Africa Eco Race in 2009, finishing runner-up in Truck to Jan de Rooy.
With Gerrit Zuurmond behind the wheel, Rainbow Truck Team currently leads the Truck overall with one timed stage remaining on Friday.
