The Desafío Ruta 40 has created a Malle Moto subcategory, offering a new trophy for the top rider competing without assistance from crews.
It follows generally the same rules as the Dakar Rally’s Original by Motul. Entrants must work on their bikes themselves while the organizers offer a helping of resources such as a tent, sleeping bag, floor mat, storage case for personal belongings (which will be transported by the organization too), and toolbox.
The challenge is available for Rally2, Rally3, and Quad. Trophies will be awarded for each class. While Rally2 is the only category at Dakar nowadays, ObM wasn’t available for Quad when that took part.
“For the first time, Desafío Ruta 40 will feature Malle Moto category, one of the most demanding and purest modalities of rally raid,” stated the organizers.
“In this category, riders will compete without external assistance, personally taking care of the maintenance and repair of their motorcycles at the end of each stage. The incorporation of Malle Moto represents a new challenge within the competition, highlighting the spirit of adventure, autonomy, and strength that characterize true rally riders.”
Scheduled for May 24–29, the DR 40 is the third round of the 2026 World Rally-Raid Championship.
