The King of Britain, Ultra4 Europe’s UK leg, was supposed to take place in July at the Bovington Training Area. Unfortunately, the series learned on Tuesday that its permit has been rejected because the desired time slot on July 24–26 is “no longer available for the event to take place.”

Bovington is an iconic British Army base, being where the Royal Armoured Corps is stationed and the site of The Armour Centre training school. The Tank Museum, home to one of the world’s most extensive tank collections, is also located on the premises.

Ultra4’s British Championship previously competed at the camp in 2021 and 2022. The Battle of Bovington, as it was called, served as the season finale both years. The King of Britain, part of the broader European championship, is usually held at Walters Arena in South Wales.

Landmarc, who manages the British Ministry of Defence’s property like issuing permits, warned Ultra4 Europe that cancellation was always a possibility. While the series acknowledged this, it also added that the news dropping “this close to the event is not helpful.”

The series is now trying to find a new location on the same dates.

“I know that teams are wanting to make concrete plans for the event but until we can confirm a venue, the event is currently on hold,” the series’ statement continued. “Various sites have been looked at as options; some discounted due to constraints on land usage and tyres, but there are positive options which need recce visits and negotiations to ensure we can make this event as successful as possible.

“As soon as a venue can be confirmed, the event registration details, event format and all administrative details will be shared on here.”

The King of Britain is the fourth round of the 2026 Ultra4 European Championship. The season began last weekend with the King of Germany.

While Ultra4 won’t be able to race at Bovington, the base will still host motorsports in May with the inaugural Bovington Sandstorm. It is part of the Dirt Nationals, which offers Ultra4-style racing.
