An Infantry Squad Vehicle-Utility will be up for auction at Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach event on April 16–18. Expected to be sold at 3:30 PM Eastern on the 18th, the hammer price will go to the Medal of Honor Foundation.
Officially called the ISV Multi-Mission and Logistics Variant, the ISV-U is a five-seat version that comes with a wide cargo bed that can be used to transport goods and serve multiple purposes. As the “U” in the name suggests, it is essentially a UTV variant of the regular M1301.
The vehicle is typically only available for military customers, meaning the auction will be its first time going out to the public.
Touted as the Army’s newest light utility vehicle, the ISV was developed by General Motors’ military arm with plenty of insight from the racing world. NASCAR team Hendrick Motorsports, whose headquarters is a short distance from GM Defense’s Concord factory, is responsible for building the chrome-moly steel frame to protect it from rollovers. HMS was named GM Defense’s Supplier of the Year in 2022 and 2023.
Rod Hall Products, as well as Hall Racing, is a close partner of Chevrolet. The ISV was based on the Colorado ZR2, which team owner Chad Hall has raced in BITD and the Mint 400; he relays the data collected from racing to GM for use in vehicles like the ISV. For this reason, Hall has been open about desert racing being a cost-effective way to develop and test products.
GM Defense even promotes the ISV’s “off-road performance” as one of its “key attributes”. Both the ISV and ISV-U have a 2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, a six-speed automatic transmission.
The Medal of Honor Foundation is run by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. Founded in 1999, it is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to supporting recipients of the highest military award in the United States.
The ISV-U isn’t the only vehicle at the Palm Beach auction with a military philanthropic aim. Also up for grabs is a 1979 Porsche 911 SC to benefit Southeast Florida Honor Flight, which offers free flights for war veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit its memorials.
