131 Off-Road was founded in December 2024 by Justin Nguyen, a longtime off-road racing fan and journalist.

It is an independent project solely operated out of his own pocket dedicated to covering the latest news from the off-road world across a variety of disciplines, as well as tangential topics where relevant such as pavement racing and the military. As an outlet run by a History major, features about events in the past for off-road motorsports are also a focal point of coverage.

While this site covers multiple off-road disciplines, the primary topics include—but are not limited to—rally raid, desert racing, and short course. 131 also follows stories from within the off-roading industry such as product releases.
