After a decade with the Open Country R/T tire, Toyo Tires has developed its successor. The Open Country R/T Pro was revealed on Wednesday, designed to be more durable and provide more traction.
Like its predecssor, the R/T Pro model has a three-ply sidewall which features bigger shoulder lugs to protect from hazards and uneven terrain. The pattern on the tire surface has also been redesigned to have more void ratio and reduce noise.
It is a hybrid tire that can be used for on- and off-roading, the latter particularly through mud such that it is designated as an M/T (Mud Terrain) tire.
In a sense, it is a balance between the R/T Trail and the Open Country M/T, the former intended for all terrain while the latter has maximum traction. As a result, the R/T Pro does not boast as mch traction but the treads have more durability than the M/T and better handling.
It will replace the Open Country R/T, which was introduced in 2014.
“The Open Country product line now features a highly capable, professional-grade Hybrid M/T solution for enthusiasts to fine tune their tire selection with the exciting addition of our newest tire, the Open Country R/T Pro,” commented Toyo’s senior manager of product planning and technical services Todd Bergeson. “This tire is a culmination of extensive research and testing. We worked directly with off-road enthusiasts and industry experts across the country, to ensure it will meet both our strict targets and our customer’s expectations for performance and reliability.
“The result is an aggressive hybrid M/T tire with outstanding performance that will exceed the expectations of our customers.”
50 sizes will be available upon its release in April, accommodating load combinations between 17- and 24-inch wheel diameters and up to 42 inches overall.
