If not for some early troubles, the Can-Am Maverick R probably could have had a duel for the ages with the Polaris RZR Pro R Factory in the 2025 Dakar Rally’s overall SSV standings. Even if the win eluded Can-Am and Polaris enjoyed a perfect conclusion to its Tough Doesn’t Quit: Defending Dakar series instead, the former still had much to be happy about.

All In On Dakar: Building the Maverick R Legend was released on Friday as the sequel to a 1:30 piece from December discussing the Maverick R’s impending Dakar debut. It is a 12-minute video that focuses on the UTV in Saudi Arabia for the race, featuring quotes and segments from drivers on the Can-Am Factory Team andpersonnel like South Racing boss Scott Abraham.

Can-Am Factory Team was represented by Jeremías González Ferioli, Francisco López Contardo, Hunter Miller, and Sara Price. A slow start, including a frustrating Chrono Stage, effectively threw Can-Am’s chances out the window with López ultimately going on to finish second behind Polaris’ Brock Heger but over two hours back.

Despite the issues, the Maverick R went on a tear following the Chrono. González, López, and Price combined to win the next ten stages; López led all SSV drivers in stage wins with five while Price had three and González notched two. Even without the overall win, salvaging it with quick pace is already a promising sign for the Maverick R—touted as the most powerful UTV on the market today—in its young lifetime.

“Get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the adrenaline-fueled action from Dakar 2025! From the pit to the dunes, see how our racers and the Can-Am Maverick R gear up and push the limits,” reads a Can-Am statement. “You won’t want to miss this!”

The Maverick R was introduced in summer 2023, and immediately proved to be a success in North American desert racing. It saw sporadic rally raid competition throughout 2024, mainly in amateur and non-FIA races before the federation homologated it for 2025.
