Sara Price will head to the Mint 400 next weekend with the UTV that she used to prepare for January’s Dakar Rally. The Can-Am Maverick R Dip & Dip Edition is a variant built by Alsup Racing Development in late 2024 for Price to use recreationally and for training.

The Rip & Dip Edition features various upgrades from the stock Maverick R like an RNS GFX Tripmaster navigation device, which is connectable to the ERTF system used in rally raids, and being more durable yet lightweight. Alsup Racing Development designed a special roll cage with accompanying suspension components, though both are still legal for stock UTV classes. It also uses BFGoodrich Baja T/A KR2 tires attached to A14BG Alpha Beadlock wheels from Raceline Wheels.

Its name is a nod to Rip & Dip Ranch, a facility in Mohave Valley along the Colorado River that is co-owned by Price and her boyfriend-slash-Dakar winner Ricky Brabec. The ranch is expected to open later in 2025.

ARD is a Can-Am partner that prepares turnkey and race-ready Mavericks and offers products from BRP. Alsup also worked as Price’s co-driver at the 2023 Dos Mares 500, finishing second in Class 29.

Training with the Rip & Dip Edition seemed to work out well for Price, even if it isn’t reflected on the Dakar results sheet. She and her FIA-spec Maverick R were knocked out of contention by a fuel problem in the Chrono Stage, but continued on and claimed three stage wins. Due to the early DNF, she was classified 27th in SSV. Price is the first American woman to win a Dakar stage, and now has four to her name after notching the other in 2024.

For the Mint, Price will compete in the UTV Pro Stock Modified category. She finished 12th in UTV Pro at last year’s event, having been ordered to switch from UTV Pro Stock because her Maverick X3 did not meet regulation. The X3 won the Pro Super Stock Turbo class at the 2023 Mint.

UTVs will be doing the Mint’s Limited Race on Friday, March 7.
