Universal Pictures, Red Bull Studios, and The Red Ceiling Production have joined forces to create Dakar: Race Against the Desert. It is a documentary that will follow the 2024 Dakar Rally, focusing on many of the race’s biggest names like Nasser Al-Attiyah in his quest for a third straight win, Prodrive teammate Sébastien Loeb, and eventual victor Carlos Sainz.
The film is directed by Jalil Lespert, a French actor best known for starring in movies like Human Resources and Le Petit Lieutenant. Lespert has also been directing since 2007, with his 2014 biodrama Yves Saint Laurent enjoying success at the César Awards. Race Against the Desert, known in France as Dakar Chronicles, is his first directorial work for a documentary.
Bike racers Mason Klein and Toby Price, Sainz’s Audi colleague Stéphane Peterhansel, and 2024 Challenger winner Cristina Gutiérrez are also set to be featured.
French electronic group M83 is behind the movie’s soundtrack. Titled A Necessary Escape, the soundtrack will be released on May 9.
Dakar: Race Against the Desert will be available for rent and owning on May 12.
