Faruk Kugay knows his way around on pavement and how to throw his car sideways, but how does the Formula DRIFT competitor fare on a rally course?
Episode 2 of Hoonigan’s Rally Speedrun Championship series was released on Monday, where Kugay tries to set the fastest time around a 1.3-mile course. Kugay took part in a 1980 Toyota Corolla TE72, a Clubman rally car built by Oldskool Lyfe.
The rear-wheel-drive Corolla features a 1.9-liter carbureted engine that produces 130 horsepower. It uses a manual W58 transmission from a Toyota Supra and a rear differential from a Celica.
“This is something that anybody could build,” Kugay noted. “If you wanted to start rallying, which is kind of what I’ve been trying to do for a while, it’s a good step.”
The series premiered last Monday, where Jeff Zwart set a time of 1:54.12 around the course in his 450-hp Porsche GT3 Cup car.
