After five years, Sebastian Bühler and Hero MotoSports have parted ways. Both parties announced the news on Friday.
Bühler joined Hero for the 2020 Dakar Rally, a year after making his debut on a KTM. While he retired from the race, he went on to win that year’s FIM Bajas World Cup and the Baja Portalegre 500 on his home soil. He also won the 2021 Hungarian Baja in a 1–3 finish for Hero alongside Joaquim Rodrigues.
Hero committed to the World Rally-Raid Championship from 2022 onward, with Bühler continuing to race for the team. His best outing in the series was a runner-up at the 2024 BP Ultimate Rally-Raid.
However, his luck during the W2RC era has also been on and off. Despite the second in Portugal, he ended the 2024 season with a crash in Morocco that kept him at seventh in RallyGP points. Bühler also crashed out of the 2024 and 2025 Dakar Rallies, sustaining injuries that forced him to miss the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge in both years.
Bühler has not immediately announced his next destination, nor has Hero revealed if his ride will be filled by someone else. The team still has reigning champion Ross Branch and José Ignacio Cornejo on the roster.
The third round of the W2RC, the South African Safari Rally, takes place in late May.
