Henk Lategan will run the rest of the 2025 World Rally-Raid Championship, and will move up from Toyota Gazoo Racing South Africa to the flagship team as part of his new campaign.

Lategan finished runner-up in the season-opening Dakar Rally to fellow Toyota Hilux driver Yazeed Al-Rajhi. Although he was registered to earn points, he did not appear at the second round in Abu Dhabi. For Round 3 in his home country and the final two races after that, he and navigator Brett Cummings opted to join the main Toyota Gazoo Racing, which is headquartered in Germany.

A statement from TGR describes Lategan and Cummings as “shift(ing) their full focus to the W2RC after several successful years racing in South Africa and Dakar.

“Lategan and Cummings have long been associated with TOYOTA GAZOO Racing South Africa (TGRSA), where they not only contributed to the development of the GR Hilux EVO, but also secured five South African Rally-Raid Championship (SARRC) titles. Following a strong showing at Dakar 2025, where they finished second overall, the pair have decided to focus exclusively on the W2RC. To do so, they aligned with the Europe-based TGR team, which is focused on the FIA World Rally-Raid Championship, including Dakar.”

After not racing Abu Dhabi, Lategan is currently fifth in the drver’s standings and directly behind TGR colleagues Lucas Moraes (third) and Seth Quintero (fourth). The trio will represent the main team at next week’s South African Safari Rally, while Lategan’s old outfit TGRSA is fielding Hiluxes for Guy Botterill and Saood Variawa.

Following South Africa are the BP Ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal in September and the Rallye du Maroc in October.
