With the World Rally-Raid Championship coming to their home country for the first time, Toyota Gazoo Racing South Africa has traded in black for beige on their Toyota Hiluxes.

Guy Botterill will race the #211 Hilux for TGRSA while Saood Variawa is in the #212.

Usually, the team’s Hiluxes feature a black, red, and white paint scheme after the universal color palette for TGR and its regional subsidiaries across all motorsports. Even the W2RC arm of the flagship TGR, which is based in Europe, uses the same colors albeit with yellow too because of sponsorships from Red Bull and Repsol.

The new look is meant to evoke the African savannah, appropriate given the upcoming race is called the South African Safari Rally. SVR Hallspeed, who builds Hiluxes for TGR, also moved into a new shop this week ahead of the rally.

Variawa, whose father Shameer runs SVR Hallspeed, is currently 14th in the W2RC after finishing 19th in Ultimate at the Dakar Rally and 14th at the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge. Botterill retired from Dakar before placing fifth in Abu Dhabi, though he is not registered for points.

TGRSA’s Henk Lategan, who finished runner-up at Dakar, has moved to the flagship team for the rest of the season. Giniel de Villiers, a longtime stalwart of the team, is now with #TeamHilux Rally-Raid.

The inaugural South African Safari Rally is scheduled for May 19–24.
