A monster truck designed after a Tech Deck sounds ridiculous, but when it is revealed at the X Games and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is right around the corner… well, why not?

On Friday, the first day of X Games Salt Lake City, Monster Jam unveiled the Tech Deck Wreck Deck. As the name suggests, its design is based on that of a Tech Deck fingerboard (a mini skateboard that one controls using their fingers). The deck’s wheelbase is where the cockpit is situated, while the kicktail is essentially the truck bed and “spoiler”.

“Inspired by the fearless world of skateboarding, this Monster Jam truck treats the stadium like a massive skatepark, catching big air like it’s hitting a vert ramp, stomping landings and going for the coolest tricks,” reads a promotional statement from Feld Entertainment. “Get ready to witness a full-throttle, ramp-smashing, adrenaline-pumping ride.”

Hot Wheels previously designed a skateboard truck, known as Board to be Wild, for its Hot Wheels Monster Trucks series in 2023. Unlike Wreck Deck, the deck on the diecast is atop the chassis and includes a skater figure.

Bryce Kenny was named as the truck’s driver, moving over from Monster Mutt. He will do this weekend’s Monster Jam World Finals (also held in Salt Lake City) in Monster Mutt before switching to Wreck Deck for good. Kenny started his Monster Jam career in Monster Mutt in 2016 before switching to Mohawk Warrior, spending seven years in the latter.

Despite its driver’s departure, Kenny stressed Mutt will “still be out there”.
