Attending the Dakar Rally seems to have left an impression on Le Mans legend André Lotterer. He will try his hand at cross-country rally for the first time later in July when he enters the Baja Aragón, driving the #320 Taurus T3 Max for Rebellion Spierings.
Lotterer is one of the top sports car racers in the world, having won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times along with two FIA World Endurance Championships. He also has two Super GT titles to his name as well as success in open-wheelers with a Super Formula crown and six seasons in Formula E.
In January, he went to Saudi Arabia to follow the Dakar Rally from the fourth stage onward. He and rally great Petter Solberg—who’s expressed interest in racing Dakar someday—watched the action via media helicopter. Lotterer remarked that it is a “little dream of mine to see [Dakar] and race it one day.”
Despite winning the 2024 WEC Hypercar title with Porsche Penske Motorsport, Lotterer did not return to the team for the 2025 season. He landed with IDEC Sport in LMP2 for Le Mans but did not finish.
With his schedule now freer than ever, why not try something new and take a step toward making that “little dream” a reality?
Rebellion Spierings was formed by the merger of Paul Spierings’ Dakar Team Spierings and Alexandre Pesci’s Rebellion Racing. Lotterer raced for the latter’s now-defunct WEC program in 2018 and 2019, finishing fourth for LMP1 in both years’ Le Mans 24 Hours and fifth in the 2018–19 LMP1 standings.
At the 2025 Dakar Rally, Spierings finished 21st in Challenger while Pesci was 30th. Spierings also won SSV at the Rallye Breslau in June.
Two-time Dakar Rally Quad winner Alexandre Giroud will serve as Lotterer’s navigator at Aragón. After the ASO axed his category for 2025, Giroud switched to driving a G Rally OT3 but retired from the race.
The Baja España Aragón is scheduled for July 24–27. Lotterer is one of 39 drivers tentatively entered in the Challenger class.
