After a week on the Bring a Trailer auction block, Mickey Thompson’s pre-runner buggy was won with a hammer price of $13,750 by user melovecars.
The buggy was built by Thompson for pre-running before he turned it over to his friend and fellow Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee Dick Landfield. The Hall of Fame eventually acquired the car, which sat in their collection before passing it on to Warfighter Made. It’s been at a private shop in Vista, California, since then.
Proceeds from the auction will be donated to Warfighter Made, a nonprofit supporting veterans transitioning to civilian life through means like off-road racing.
With Monday being the final day, it was also time for a rush of last-minute bids that quickly pushed the buggy’s value up. User tucsonaz helped it break the $10,000 mark, which remained the top bid for about three hours before everyone started battling in the closing minutes.
MackJohnson, Indianriverrunner, melovecars, and Dfezz all placed bids in the final stretch. The winning bid was put by melovecars at 12:50 PM Pacific, and it was officially sold two minutes later.
30 bids were placed in total.
“As a proud BaT Local Partner, it was our pleasure to represent this vehicle, and we’re very grateful to Warfighter Made who entrusted us to manage their auction,” reads a statement from auction overseer Compass Collective. “A big thank-you to everyone that commented and bid, and to the folks at Bring a Trailer for their support. Congratulations to melovecars on winning this amazing Buggy.”
