Henk Lategan is currently chasing Nasser Al-Attiyah for the 2025 World Rally-Raid Championship. Even if he comes up short this year, he’ll still have two more chances after that in the Hilux.

Speaking with the W2RC website, Toyota Gazoo Racing sporting manager Jean-Marc Fortin explained Lategan is locked in with the team through the 2027 season. While this means his schedule is busy enough that he can’t compete for the South African Rally-Raid Championship, the W2RC taking priority isn’t entirely a surprise either.

Lategan has enjoyed an impressive 2025 that began with a second at the Dakar Rally. Normally a part of Toyota Gazoo Racing South Africa, he moved to the flagship team—which is based in Europe—ahead of the South African Safari Rally in May, which he won. If he hadn’t skipped the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, the 20-point gap between him and points leader Al-Attiyah (himself a former TGR driver) would surely be much smaller.

“Henk Lategan is now in the program and will no longer be taking part in his national championship in South Africa,” Fortin explained. “He’ll be part of the W2RC program in a Toyota Gazoo Racing factory car in late 2025, 2026, and 2027.”

Seth Quintero will remain his primary teammate for at least 2026. Unlike Lategan, Quintero has yet to score an overall win since moving up to the Ultimate class. Still, Fortin has hope that the American will pan out.

Quintero is currently fourth in points with a ninth at Dakar, third in Abu Dhabi, and seventh in South Africa.

“We’re on the right track to continue the experience with Seth Quintero,” Fortin continued. “We took a chance on him and are going to see it through until the end. He’ll have to prove his mettle in 2026. He did well in South Africa and finished just outside the podium, and God knows that the competition was stiff. I’m thrilled to keep Seth on board for another season.”

Lucas Moraes, the team’s other full-time driver, is expected to move to Dacia.
