On Sunday, BRP Inc. revealed new Can-Am Off-Road vehicles for the 2026 model year. Perhaps the most notable is the introduction of what the company proclaims is the “first full-size production electric ATV” in the Can-Am Outlander Electric.
The manufacturer also developed a new variant of the Can-Am Maverick R called the X rc package for rock crawling, an Outlander MAX 6×6, and a new generation of the Defender called the Defender HD11.
“The 2026 Can-Am Off-Road lineup marks numerous innovations and industry firsts that showcase our relentless pursuit of the ultimate rider experience,” Can-Am marketing director Julie Tourville stated. “From the first full-size production electric ATV to the next evolution of our Maverick R and Maverick X3 platforms, we are proud to be on the leading edge of the powersports industry.”
Defender
Can-Am’s utility side-by-side received major updates for 2026, such that BRP labeled it as part of a new generation called the HD11. It comes in six configurations: the Defender XT, Defender XT CAB, Defender X mr, Defender Limited, Defender Lone Star, and Defender Lone Star CAB. ll but the Lone Star and MAX are three-seaters with the MAX boasting six.
The Can-Am Defender HD11 runs on a new 999cc inline, three-cylinder Rotax ACE engine with 95 horsepower and 70 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes with a continuously variable transmission and pDrive primary clutch, along with a revised intake and cooling system. For comparison, the 2025 Defender has a 976cc Rotax motor with 82 horsepower and 79 lb-ft torque.
The HD11 is lighter when dry at 1,870 pounds compared to the predecessor’s 1,976 lbs yet is longer by 3.8 inches. It measures in at 129.8×65×81″ with a longer wheelbase of 85″. Cargo space and towing capacity are the same, but the 2026 car has a larger payload capacity of 1,500 lbs. Given the bigger load, the fuel tank is larger too at 11.9 gallons.
The double A-arms are 50% larger, while the suspension and steering components have been reworked and built on double-bonded bushings. Still, it offers the same suspension travel of 12″ on both front and rear.
Inside the cockpit is a new 10.25″ touchscreen display with a built-in GPS. It comes standard on all Limited and Lone Star versions while XT and XT CAB have them as accessories.
“At Can-Am, we know that the clock never stops for the farmers, ranchers and builders around the world,” Tourville started. “This new Defender platform is built to prove it and match the unstoppable spirit of our hardworking customers. From managing farmland, to running a job site, or escaping to the backcountry, the new generation Defender is all about bringing true value to our riders with practical and best-in-class features, industry-leading technology and reliable performance that they can count on to help them get the job done and beyond.”
The standard Defender HD7, HD9, and HD10 are also available.
Maverick
Meanwhile, the Maverick is Can-Am’s performance side-by-side. The Maverick R in particularly has continued to be the top UTV on the market and impressive in desert racing.
For 2026, BRP decided to give some love to the rock crawlers instead. In the wake of Kyle Chaney becoming the first UTV to win the Race of Kings at King of the Hammers, the Maverick R X rc is designed to focus on that discipline instead.
It has a lower gear range and a ROCK mode on the Smart-Lok, along with 35-inch tires and an integrated FOX steering damper. It also comes with skid plates, A-arm protectors, and an anti-intrusion bar.
The Maverixck X3 has also received some updates for 2026 like stronger lighting. The X3 X Turbo package introduces a 4,500-lb winch, bumpers, and a roof.
Outlander
The Outlander Electric uses the same Rotax E-Power engine as BRP’s electric motorcycles and snowmobiles, which produces 47 horsepower and 53 pound-feet of torque. It comes in three ride modes (Normal, Sport, Work) and can charge from 20% to 80% in 50 minutes using a Level 2 charger. At Level 1, it will take just over three hours for the same charge. The battery is a liquid-cooled, integrated lithium-ion unit with 8.9 kWh of storage.
It also comes with larger wheels (14″ to the standard model’s 12″) and is smaller with dimensions of 86.7×47.6×48″ compared to the 2026 Outlander Pro’s 89.9×48.8×48.2″.
Meanwhile, the 6×6 obviously has six wheels instead of four; said wheels entail XPS Trail King tires on on 12″ beadlock steel wheels.
The Outlander XT-P and MAX Limited lines come with Smart-Shox technology, making them the first ATVs with semi-active suspension.
