Italian F4 Championship rookie Oleksandr Bondarev, fresh off his first career win in the series, announced a partnership with Lviv-based bakery SHOco. on Friday to create a specialty donut. Sales will go toward Sabre, a fund to buy FPV drones for the Second International Legion of Ukraine.

The collaboration is a play on how drivers do donuts to celebrate victories. Bondarev designed a raspberry-filled donut that is dipped in chocolate, after which it’s glazed with more chocolate and raspberry pieces. Each donut costs 140 hryvnias (roughly USD$3.39).

SHOco. coined the slogan “Donut for a Donat!” (“ДОнат за ДонАт!”) for it.

FPV (first-person view) drones have been a vital asset on the frontlines during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. With how prominent they are, the Ukrainian military is the first in the world to have a branch dedicated to drone warfare with the Unmanned Systems Forces.

Sabre (ШаБля) is run by Olexandr Petrenko, the deputy chairman of the Ukrainian Karting Committee. In partnership with the Automobile Federation of Ukraine and Ukrainian Formula One podcaster Maks Podzigun, Petrenko often hosts auctions and fundraisers of memorabilia signed by drivers to purchase drones and other equipment. For example, a 2023 auction of a flag and shirt signed by Rubens Barrichello led to two military buggies nicknamed “Rubens” and “Barrichello”.

Also in 2023, Petrenko launched a raffle in which Michael Schumacher’s cap for winning the 2002 title would be used to buy a reconnaissance drone for the 2nd. Bondarev helped out with the campaign as a guest speaker on a stand-up program and gave away calendars to donors, who raised ₴1.5 million for the hat.

A member of the Williams Driver Academy since 2023, Bondarev is the first Ukrainian F1 development driver and hopes to the the first of his country to eventually compete in the highest level of open-wheel racing. After starring in karting, he moved up to the Italian F4 Championship in late 2024 before signing on for the full 2025 season.

Competing for Prema Racing, he currently sits 11th in points. Bondarev scored his first series victory at Imola earlier in August. He also raced in the F4 Middle East Championship, finishing 12th in the 2025 standings.

The 16-year-old hails from Kyiv, and was in Italy for a winter karting series when the Russian invasion of his home country began in February 2022.
