Libor Podmol is torn between going to the Dakar Rally or the Africa Eco Race next January. Speaking with TV Nova, he explained he is up for either race and could be swayed if a “tempting offer came from any team”.
Podmol has three Dakar starts to his name. After finishing 31st overall at his debut in 2021, he retired from the 2023 edition due to an early crash. His most recent start in 2024 was a brutal affair, crashing in Stage 3 and needing stitches along his face but continuing on; he ultimately finished eighth in Malle Moto and 37th for Rally2.
He skipped racing the 2025 Dakar to cover it as an analyst for TV Nova.
Nowadays, his focus is on freestyle motocross with the Freestyle MX World Tour Championship. He won the Synchro Contest alongside Maikel Melero and finished fifth overall at the season-opening NIGHT of the JUMPs in April. FMX is one of his main disciplines, with eight X Games medals including a pair of golds; he was the first non-American to win gold in MotoX Step Up when he pulled it off in 2013.
While bikes are his specialty, he’s open to trying out a car if offered.
“It shouldn’t just be on a motorbike, since that’s the category that’s the most dangerous,” he explained. “I’d love to take part in something else too.”
The Dakar Rally and Africa Eco Race ran at the same time in recent years, but will no longer clash in 2026 as the latter now begins a week later.
