Ethan Ebert is a rising star in the desert world, but he’s starting to prove he can wheel a stock car too.

On Saturday, the Honda factory driver scored his maiden Super Late Model feature victory at South Sound Speedway. He won the pole before holding off Jeff Peterson in the closing run.

Ebert set the fastest time in qualifying and started fifth following a field invert. He quickly worked his way through the field, moving up to second behind Peterson after just four laps.

The two ran side by side before Ebert found a run on the inside in Turns 3 and 4 to clear him. From there, Ebert drove off to the win. The victory keeps him atop the points standings for South Sound with one race remaining.

South Sound is a .375-mile short track near Rochester, Washington. Ebert has been dabbling in short tracks in the Northwest like South Sound, where he had finished second in his last two starts, and Evergreen Speedway as part of the Northwest Super Late Model Series.

Ebert started dabbling in oval track racing, both dirt and pavement, in the spring. It was a change of pace from what he’s used to as the lead driver for Honda Factory Off-Road Racing.

The 25-year-old currently races the Honda Baja Passport part time in SCORE, impressing at the Baja 500 in June as the fastest qualifier for 2WD trucks before finishing the race second in class.

Ebert has been part of the Honda factory program since 2021, initially in the Talon before taking over as team owner Jeff Proctor’s successor in the Honda Ridgeline in 2023. The team switched to the Passport starting at this year’s Mint 400 in March.
