Officially, SPEED UTV’s newest creation is exactly as the manufacturer’s name suggests they make. To the untrained eye, on the other hand, it kinda looks like a sandrail or Class 1 car.

Robby Gordon’s company unveiled their newest creation at the Sand Sports Super Show on Friday night, a four-wheel-drive V8 UTV with independent rear suspension and what is called a tri-drive transmission. It is expected to be sold for $800,000.

The tri-drive transmission is a concept that Gordon patented in 2024. The V8 UTV features a six-speed version, with a driveshaft in the front and two in the rear. The double rear driveshaft arrangement is similar to what is in Mason Motorsports’ Gen-2 Trophy Trucks, as well as in older farming equipment before being popularized by Robby Woods. Unlike Mason’s, SPEED made theirs from billet cast metal.

The transmission complements the UTV’s 1800-horsepower twin-turbocharged engine. Besides the increased power compared to other UTVs (the Polaris RZR has a V4, for example), the SPEED is noticeably bigger than its predecessors with 40-inch tires as well as 26 inches of front travel and 34″ at the rear. It also comes with independent rear trailing arms and a three-piece lower A-arm.

Other elements are inspired by vehicles that Gordon built and drove over the years, such as the front bulkhead being based on his “Unicorn” AWD Trophy Truck.

Gordon and his team had been working on the V8 UTV for five years, while the build took about three weeks save for a delay to compete in the Baja 400.

Given the unusual design for a UTV, it’s easy to assume that SPEED is testing the waters for Class 1, rock crawling, or even an Unlimited category. Indeed, Gordon plans on entering it into the 2026 King of the Hammers.
