The King of Portugal, the fifth and final round of the 2025 Ultra4 Europe season, was overshadowed by a fatal accident on Saturday evening that claimed the life of a track worker.

52-year-old José “Zé” Carlos Patrício was one of the marshals working Day 2 for the rock crawling event in Vimioso. He was stationed at a part of the course nicknamed “Dinosaur Eggs” for the shape of the rocks when a competing vehicle lost control and veered off the road, hitting him and sending him into respiratory arrest.

Eight firefighters, members of the National Republican Guard, and an INEM (Instituto Nacional de Emergência Médica) helicopter were deployed to the scene. However, Patrício was pronounced dead on site.

“With great sadness, we must announce that today during the course, race marshal Zé Carlos Patrício tragically lost his life in an accident,” reads a statement from King of Portugal organizer Clube Norte x4.

“We have lost not only a Marshal, but above all a great friend and member of this family. Our hearts are with Rute and Gonçalo, with all his family and friends. You will never be forgotten… until we meet again, Companion!”

Ultra4 Europe announced Sunday that the final points results will not be published until next Sunday, October 5.

“We kindly ask for your understanding that we would like to maintain a 7 days grievance period,” explained the series. “We would like express our deepest condolences to the entire Norte X4, their families and relations.”

The 2025 Ultra4 Europe season began with the King of Nations in Poland in March. It was followed by the King of Germany in May, King of Britain in August, and the King of Poland earlier in September.
